Director of Advanced Medical Technologies and Service: “We aim to be top player in the industry”
Advanced Medical Technologies and Service, a medical equipment and disposables importer in Georgia, has been paving the way for the domestic medical industry by providing cutting-edge equipment and disposables, while also promoting professional growth and development for over 25 years.
Director and co-founder of AMTS, George Nikolaishvili, told Golden Brand the mission of the company hasn’t changed – to be the top player in the industry.
These efforts have not gone unnoticed by experts and customers, who participated in the Golden Brand survey and named the Advanced Medical Technologies and Service their favorite company in the field.
Q. AMTS has become the favorite provider of medical products and services in Georgia, receiving the Golden Brand award. What led the company to this recognition, in your opinion?
A. Our mission hasn’t changed in the 25 years since the company was founded – we strive to be the leader in our field. We always prioritize providing high-quality products to our partner clinics and customers at an affordable price, while also offering them excellent service. It’s these factors that have led to our recognition in this award ceremony.
Q. What advanced technologies does the company currently offer?
A. Our company offers a wide range of products, from basic sewing materials like needles and thread, to advanced medical equipment such as magnetic resonance imaging and computer tomography machines. Our mission is to provide the latest innovative world-leading medical technology, both consumables and equipment.
Q. What new products have you added to the catalogue?
A. Our company, in partnership with Medtronic, one of the world’s largest companies, has recently introduced a Continuous Glucose Monitoring system for diabetic patients.
We introduced usage of automatic insulin delivery pumps and a service hotline for these patients. In the near future we plan to introduce a new technology – replacement of heart valve with the biological heart valve produced by Italian company CORCYM with a mini-invasive method, without the need for surgical sutures.
Q. What inspired you to start the company back in 1998? What were the first products you brought to Georgia and which international brand did you work with first?
A. Advanced Medical Technologies and Service was established to meet the growing demand in the Georgian healthcare system. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, many Georgian doctors became familiar with advanced medical technologies and wanted to incorporate them into their daily medical practices. Our company was founded by doctors and medical equipment engineers to provide these advanced medical products and offer high-quality service. Our first partners were such leading companies as Mallinckrodt (NPB) – manufacturer of medical ventilators, Hewlelt Packard – manufacturer of patient monitoring systems and ultrasound machines.
Later we became the partners of many world renowned medical brands such as Philips, B. Braun, Terumo, Medtronic, Leica, Teleflex, Kodak etc. We continue to add new products to our line each year to meet the needs of medical institutions.
Q. How has the company developed over the years?
A. Over the course of 25 years, our company has faced numerous challenges. Starting with just four employees, we have now grown to a team of 65. Despite the obstacles, we have always been committed to staying ahead of the curve in our field. In the early days, it was especially tough due to the influx of humanitarian aid coming into the country, which hindered our business development. But we remained dedicated to providing our clinics with the latest medical equipment and diagnostic techniques. This allowed us to grow and develop alongside them.
Q. And what is the contribution of Advanced Medical Technologies and Service to developing the sector in Georgia?
A. Our company has made significant contributions to the development of various fields in healthcare, including cardiac surgery, cardiology, intensive therapy, computed tomography, ultrasound devices and more.
We have made several advancements in the healthcare industry in the wider region. We introduced the first digital Red City and the first hybrid operating room. In addition, we have implemented glucose monitoring systems for patients with diabetes. We also played a crucial role in the hepatitis C elimination program. Together with our partner companies Echosens and Philips we have increased the range of diagnostic equipment. Besides, we introduced the use of artificial joints produced by German Company Aesculap in orthopedy.
Q. How many medical institutions do you currently cooperate with?
A. We have daily business relations with about a 100 clinics and cooperate with various medical institutions nationwide.
Q. The company not only provides medical technology and services but also supports various important events. How important are such activities to the company?
A. We support many professional medical associations to arrange and take part in several conferences and symposia, both domestically and internationally. We achieve this together with our partner companies. It is of utmost importance for us to support their professional growth by engaging in such events, and we are always available to aid them in their journey towards progress.
Their professional development will contribute to the healthcare system’s growth in our country.
We always make an effort to stay updated with the latest technologies introduced by our partner companies in advanced countries around the world. Our goal is to provide Georgian specialists access to these technologies and encourage their professional development.
